Gullas to review port project, fund use by JVR

TALISAY City Mayor Eduardo Gullas wants to review the contracts previously entered into by his predecessor Johnny Delos Reyes.

Gullas said he will review the contract entered into between Delos Reyes’ administration and Asian Marine Transport Corp. (AMTC) for the development and exclusive use of the idle Talisay City Fish port as a roll-on, roll-off port. “That is a public facility. So open to all shipping lines and not exclusive to one,” he said.

Last year, the city government entered into a 25-year lease agreement with AMTC which would pay the city P800,000 a month.

However, the plan to develop the port did not push through after the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) questioned the contract and claimed that they own the port.

Gullas also wants to see how funds were used by the previous administration. When asked if he would file charges against Delos Reyes, Gullas said he will have the city’s legal office study it.

Gullas said he wants to write the CPA and ask them if the city government could own and operate the city fish port.

He said he wants it developed so that it could accommodate cruise ships.
