THE Muslim community of Cebu province is celebrating the Eid al-Fitr today which marks the end of Ramadan.
Ustadz Haron Magadapa, an imam of the Cebu Green Mosque, said the celebration of Eid al-Fitr — which the national government declared as a national holiday — is an avenue where Muslim Cebuanos can renew life with patience, peace, faith and generosity.
“We are inviting the Muslim community of Cebu to come and join us celebrate by the way of Eid al-Fitr,” said Magadapa, who is also a Cebu Daily News columnist.
In the observance of Ramadan, Muslims fast for 12 hours every day as means of strengthening self-discipline and develop piety.
Muslims are prohibited from consuming meat but during the Eid al-Fitr, they slaughter sheep and other livestock to celebrate and provide food to the poor. /UP Cebu Intern Morexette Marie Erram
