THE younger brother of Catmon town Mayor Dan Jusay surrendered to the police chief and promised to stop selling shabu last Saturday.
Jover Jusay was the first surrenderee who signed an affidavit that he would no longer be involved with illegal drugs.
At least 90 self-confessed drug addicts and peddlers surrendered to the Catmon police since Saturday.
Senior Insp. Roberto Hugo, chief of the Catmon police precinct, said the mayor’s younger brother was number two in their list of drug personalities and was a level three drug pusher who could sell 50 grams of shabu worth P590,000 per week.
When reached for comment, Mayor Jusay said his brother was never up front about his involvement in illegal drugs.
“I had asked him several times but he kept denying it. I talked to him after his surrender. Jover cried but he still denied he was selling illegal drugs,” the mayor said in yesterday’s ’phone interview.
He said Hugo informed him about Jover’s involvement with illegal drugs during a meeting last week.
Mayor Jusay said Jover may have been influenced by his wife’s relatives who were known to be involved in illegal drugs in Danao.
Hugo said Jover had been selling illegal drugs for almost a year and would get his supply from a contact in Danao.
Mayor Jusay said he had warned Jover that he would not intervene if his younger brother would be caught peddling illegal drugs.
“Don’t even think that I would help you because I am against illegal drugs,” he recalled telling his brother.
He cited the case of his nephew who was detained at the provincial jail after he was arrested in a buy-bust operation last month.
Jover is the youngest of the six living Jusay siblings. He has a live-in partner with whom he has four children — the youngest was 10 years old.
