Daanbantayan to help in Monad Shoal rehab

DAABANTAYAN Mayor Vicente Loot said the fisherfolk in his town will help rehabilitate the damaged Monad Shoal near their area.

Loot, who had a closed door meeting with Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, said the shoal didn’t sustain heavy damage when a foreign vessel ran aground in the area recently. He said the fisherfolk cannot fish there because it had been declared a marine sanctuary by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Loot also said he doesn’t mind about the $1.5 million amicable settlement sought by the Capitol with the vessel owner so long as it’s fair to everyone./UP Cebu Intern Maurice Villaester
