Organizers of the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships are making sure that everything is in place for the international race next month.

The triathlon event that features half-IronMan distance of 1.9-kilometer swim, 90 km bike and 21.1 km run is slated Aug. 7 at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.

There are 2,951 participants expected this year, a record-high in the IronMan 70.3’s eight-year run in the Philippines.

This is the reason why the organizing Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI) is doubling its efforts to make sure that it will duplicate or surpass last year’s success.

“Every year we try our best to make each race successful. The Cebu race is very different, we feel sheer pressure because of the massive number of participants but we won’t settle down. We will make sure that we will provide the participants a world-class race. We will be very intricate and meticulous in all aspects of the race,” said SEI general manager Princess Galura, who was in Cebu yesterday for a media briefing at the Laguna Garden Café.

Galura said she is confident that they will be able to put up a successful race because they started their preparations early and got full support from the Department of Public Works and Highways, which was very crucial since it is this department that is responsible for the road conditions in Cebu.

“I am very confident that DPWH will not disappoint us this year,” said Galura.
