The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers finished strong in the 1st Anamel “Inday Amy” Olegario Mayor’s Cup Invitational Tournament after they defeated the Hazard Norte, 95-85, to capture third place on Thursday night at the University of Zamboanga Gym in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

With the new season of the Cesafi just a couple of weeks away, the Green Lancers sharpened their skills against some of the best commercial basketball players from the region. And they ended the campaign with a resounding victory that netted them a cash prize of P100,000.

Jerome Napao paced UV with 21 points, nearly going point for point against Hazard Norte’s star guard Eliud Poligrates, who scored a game-high 26.
The tournament was held in line with the municipality’s celebration of the 67th Araw ng Ipil. It was organized by the Committee on Sports chairman and Councilor, Hon. Ramses Troy Olegario and UV assistant coach, Van Halen Parmis. The competition was backed by Vice Governor Rey Andre Olegario and Board Member Richard Olegario.

The championship and the whopping P200,000 cash prize was won by Dual Force, which outclassed Sindangan, 99-94, in the winner-take-all finals.

Ferdinand Lusdoc exploded for 32 points and got plenty of help from former UV guard John Abad, who tallied 16 and ex-University of the East Red Warrior Moustapha Arafat who had 14.

Sindangan got 18 from veteran banger Rocky Clavel and 14 from reigning Cesafi MVP Shooster Olago.

The runner-up went home with P150,000.
