Sorongon wins anew, tops St. Ignatius Run

SULTAN Kudarat’s Ruffa Sorongon remained the top local female runner as she won in yesterday’s 6th St. Ignatius Run that started and finished at the SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties.

Sorongon topped the 21-kilometer half-marathon distance with a time of one hour, 33 minutes and 54 seconds for her ninth victory in a local fun run this year.

In the male 21k race, Kenyan runner Erick Chipsiror captured the title by crossing the finish line in 1:09.34.

Sorongon’s closest pursuer was April Flynn, who got a time of 1:37.43 while Lizane Abella completed the top three with a time of 1:38.34.

The Kenyans swept the men’s podium as Hapram Kilimo and Joseph Moruri settled for second and third places, respectively. Kilimo clocked 1:12.10 while Moruri finished in 1:12.42.

In the 12k race, Prince Joey Lee prevented a Kenyan sweep in the long-distance categories as he finished on top by clocking 42 minutes and 39 seconds.

Kenyan Douglas Mwiti was at second place with a time of 42:03 while Chobie Dueñas placed third, clocking 43:01.

In the distaff side, Cherry Andrin staged an upset after she finished first ahead of veteran runner Mereeis Ramirez.

The 16-year-old Andrin clocked 52:06 while the 37-year-old Ramirez finished in 52:22. Crisabel Cadion placed third with a time of 54:37.

Winners in the 6k race were Arnel Florentino (20:39) and Andrin’s younger sister Lovely Fe (25:57). Jason Padayao (09:48) and Catherine Angeli Yu (11:39) won in the 3k division.
