Three men nabbed for murder of Mandaue resident

Police arrested three men suspected of murdering a resident of sitio Ternate in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City in Cebu City Wednesday afternoon.

Rogelio Catipay, a 62-year-old resident of Maguikay Mandaue, 37-year-old Antonio Berondo of Calamba, Cebu City and 28-year-old Melvin Gecale of San Nicolas, Cebu City admitted to killing Armando Tuico near his home.

Catipay asked Berondo to hire Gecale to kill Tuico who was supposedly involved with his 50-year-old girlfriend Liza Singson.

Catipay, a married man and Singson has been in a relationship for 20 years but Singson left Catipay.

Witnesses say that prior to the killing, the three suspects were seen a distance from Tuico’s home.

Catipay was familiar with some of the residents, raising suspicions from Singson who reported this to the police.

Gecale said, he accepted P5,000 to kill Tuico and was given a .357 revolver by Berondo.

SPO4 Marcos Noval of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) recovered the revolver.

Murder charges will be filed against the suspects.
