SM Prime Holdings to build houses in brgy Pulangbato using proceeds of SM2SM running event
Barangay Pulangbato in Bogo City, northern Cebu will be the beneficiary for the 4th SM 2 SM Run slated Feb. 16 starting and ending at the SM City-Cebu.
Marissa Fernan, vice president of SM Prime Holdings Inc., said SM Foundation will be building six to eight houses using the proceeds from the running event to help the rebuilding efforts in the typhoon ravaged barangay.
Fernan is hoping that Cebuano running clubs, private companies and organizations will join the race for a cause. She said a group of 200 runners will help build a house for the typhoon victims.
Fernan revealed that a house will be named after a group or company if they come up with 200 runners since it takes P200,000 for each house to be built.
“We know that it’s a tough challenge to come up with 200 runners but we have to look at the brighter side. We just don’t benefit from joining a fitness activity like running but we also help our fellow Cebuanos rebuild not just their home but also their lives,” Fernan said during Thursday’s launching of the event at the Radisson Blu Hotel, where she was joined by race director Joel Baring.
“These houses will surely last for a long time since these are disaster-proof,” Fernan added.
SM Foundation is already starting its rebuilding project in Bogo City, where it is targeting to establish a new community for the typhoon survivors.
Aside from helping barangay Pulangbato, the proceeds of the race will also benefit the Cebu Newspapers Workers Foundation (CENEWOF), and the Cebu City Task Force for Street Children.
A total of P288,000 worth of cash prizes await winners 21-kilometer, 12k, 6k and 3k categories. Champions both in the men’s and women’s 21k race will win P50,000 each.
There will also be a couples category (21k and 12k ), wherein winners will get P3,000 worth of SM Gift certificates and an overnight stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
Registration is ongoing at the first level of the Northwing of SM City Cebu. Registration fee is pegged at P750 for the 21k, P600 for the 12k, and P350 for the 6k and 3k divisions.
