USC-HL settles for silver in Jawad Table Tennis Cup

THE University of San Carlos-HL (USC-HL) settled for the silver medal after losing to Makati ADU, 2–0, in the boy’s 18 and under team finals of the 25th Ernie Jawad Table Tennis Cup yesterday at The Atrium of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Makati also won another gold in the men’s team open category as the Makati Panthers posted a, 2–0 win over the Tatand-NU squad.

As of press time yesterday, two Cebuanos have booked quarterfinal seats in the boy’s 13 and under singles category while seven made their way to second round.

Eljey Tormis of the University of Cebu (UC) and Andre Caballes of the Cebu City Central School (CCCS) trounced their opponents from Bohol and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu respectively, for a spot in the quarters.
Cebu table smashers who advanced to the second round were Mel Vincent Almini (Minglanilla), Eldor Ocubillo (Bulacao), Nico Estreba (Springdale), Arian Caballes (CCCS), and Jeremy Villaflores, Niccolai Undaloc, and Hage Tabanao (Barili).

Four Cebuanas also advanced in the girls 13 and under singles. They are Gwenfional Canoy of Talisay City, Glynis Rosal of Camotes, and Leah Agbon and Michaela Empas both from UC. The tournament will resume today.
