Cebuano grad in top 10 of Customs exam

Arnold Sortones Librado and his friends studied together every Wednesday at the Customs Building of the University of Cebu (UC) since last July hoping to pass this month’s Customs Broker Licensure Examination.

Librado did not only pass but he ranked third among the 1,030 examinees who passed the exam held in Manila, Cebu and Davao this month, with an average rating of 91.75 percent.

He was the lone graduate in Cebu who landed in the top 10.

“I really did not expect this. I was nervous last Friday that’s why I decided to check the results (at the Professional Regulation Commission website) on Saturday dawn,” Librado said.

He had to verify the results after his classmates told him earlier about it.
“I am very happy and blessed,” the 22-year-old Librado said. There were 2,022 who took the exams nationwide.

He said he and his friends studied for five hours every Wednesday.

Librado started to review after graduating in October last year.

“On my part, I did memorization and application. I also created situational questions,” he said.

Librado also religiously attended Mass at Our Lady Of Consolacion parish.
He took up Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration (BSCA) at UC since he wanted a degree program that has both law and mathematics.

The 22-year-old admitted that he dreams of becoming a lawyer someday.
For now, Librado said he considered teaching while waiting for the right time to enroll in law school.

Librado is the second child of Mercedita and Miguelito of Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City. His parents make accessories out of coconut shells.

When asked for his advice to future examinees, Librado replied: “Study with all of your heart and don’t forget to pray.”
