Japanese film festival in Cebu Aug. 2 to 6

“Chihayafuru”

FILM lovers will have a chance to watch contemporary Japanese movies for free as the 20th Eigasai Japanese Film Festival in Cebu kicks off this Wednesday, Aug. 2.

The film festival will be held at Ayala Center Cebu Cinema and will run until Sunday, Aug. 6.

The opening film, “Bakuman” will be screened on Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. Directed by One Hitoshi and starring Satoh Takeru, Kamiki Ryunosuke and Komatsu Nana, it is about “the struggles of two friends to become successful in the world of manga.”

To be screened on Thursday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. is Part 1 of “Chihayafuru,” a film about childhood friends, Chihaya, Taichi and Arata who share a passion for competitive karuta (traditional Japanese playing cards). It is directed by Koizumi Nori.

”Tsukiji Wonderland,” which will be shown on Friday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. is a documentary directed by Endo Naotaro, which features, among others, never before filmed areas in the Tsukiji Market which is due to be moved to Toyosu.

Two films to be screened on Saturday, Aug. 5. These are the animation “The Anthem of the Heart,” at 4 p.m. and the drama “Her Love Boils Bathwater” at 7 p.m. Scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 6. are the drama, “Sweet Bean” at 4 p.m. and Part 2 of “Chihayafuru” at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be distributed 30 minutes before each screening at the cinema. All films are rated PG.
