OLYMPIAN Mark Anthony Barriga annexed the vacant WBO international minimumweight title with an overpowering performance Friday night, winning all 10 rounds against Thailand’s Wittawas Bassapean in Beijing, China.
The unbeaten warrior from Panabo City, Davao del Norte who competed in the 2012 London Olympics, remains unbeaten in seven pro fights with one knockout after he beat Basapean via unanimous decision.
All three judges scored the bout,100-90, in favor of the 24-year old boxer.
Bassapean is Barriga’s foreign opponent as a professional. The Thai counts Filipinos Joel Taduran, Marlou Sandoval, Geboi Mansalayao, Rodel Kirk Pelenio, Powell Balaba and Melvin Manangquil among his victims.
Four other Filipino boxers namely Jay-ar Inson, Rene Mark Cuarto, Vincent Astrolabio and Genesis Libranza triumphed in the fight card last Friday.
Inson won by majority decision against Chinese Jin Yancheng; Cuarto scored a third round technical knockout against homeboy Li Guangxiong while Astrolabio beat another Chinese boxer Ayati Sailiki by unanimous decision and Libranza won by unanimous decision against Zeng Yujie
