TWO low pressure areas (LPAs) spotted in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Albay are projected to bring in rains to Cebu and the rest of Central Visayas starting today until Friday this week.
“We will have cloudy skies and thunderstorms from Monday until Friday because of the LPAs,” said Romeo Aguirre, weather specialist of the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa.
He said one low pressure area was spotted 300 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Norte, while another LPA was detected 580 kilometers east of Legazpi City, Albay.
Thunderstorms are expected to occur in the afternoon and evening, Aguirre said.
“The wind will be strong too. Thunderstorms bring lightning and heavy rains so we need to be very careful,” Aguirre said.
The LPA in Ilocos Norte is seen to exit the country later today.
The LPA in Albay will move out of the country in the next two days.
“The one in Albay is smaller and weaker compared to the one we spotted in Ilocos Norte,” Aguirre said.
But as the low pressure area in Albay gets weaker, another LPA is seen to enter the country on Wednesday.
Aguirre said the cloud formation spotted near Luzon is projected to be stronger and may develop into a tropical storm.
On Tuesday, Aguirre said Pagasa will issue updates on the weather system.
“We are now monitoring if it’s going to maintain its strength and eventually become a storm in the next days. We will issue warnings to the public,” Aguirre said.
More rain is expected to hit Metro Cebu on Wednesday, as it recorded 27.6 millimeters of rainfall this month.
