Bantayan Island remains unbeaten in Governor’s Cup basketball tourney

BANTAYAN Island took the lead in the standings of the North Division Bracket 4 in the ongoing Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament by crushing Madridejos, 108-57, in its homecourt.

Four players from Bantayan Island finished with double-digit scores with Romeo Sumbi Jr. leading the team with 18 markers. Samuel Escaran Jr., Alfredo Veliganio Jr., and Adam Elnour each scored 10 points as Bantayan Island remained unbeaten after four outings.

Albert Illustrisimo had 11 points for Madridejos.

In the other North Division Bracket 4 action, Medellin snatched its third straight win by beating Santa Fe, 96-77, in the opening game.

Ex-University of Cebu (UC) player Gelmat Umpad exploded for 32 points while Fritz Saladaga added 21 markers for the winning team.

Marvin Bula’s 27-point performance for Medellin went for naught.

Daanbantayan, meanwhile, escaped San Remigio, 115-107, in overtime to score its second victory.

Charson Gomez torched the defense of San Remigio with 21 points, nine coming in the extra period.

Robert Glenn Intrampas also scored 21 points for Daanbantayan, Jestoni Maloloy-on added 17 and Christian Omandac and Roland Mercader each had 11 points.

Arnold Dave Ando scored a game-high 30 for the losing squad.
