Garma taps young officers to lead anti-drug campaign

Cebu City policemen with ranks ranging from police officer 1 to police officer 3 shall be tapped to help operatives of the Drug Enforcement Units (DEUs).
Senior Supt. Royina Garma, acting director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said she required all policemen holding the mentioned ranks to be the arresting officers of DEUs.
“I required them to be arresting officers of DEUs. And (the organic members of) DEUs will focus on the identification and case build up (against drug personalities),” said Garma.
Garma said that she preferred younger cops to be poseur buyers and arresting officers of DEUs because they are always on the field and have longer time as police officers.
“So pag time na tawagin sila sa korte may time pa di katulad ng senior police officers kasi baka maabutan ng retirement ang kaso baka ma dismiss lang ang kaso if di sila mag appear,” said Garma.
Garma also said that clearing the city of illegal drugs will be her top priority as she vowed to conduct more anti-drug operations in the coming days.
“Marami pang high value targets (here in Cebu City). May nawala pero marami din ang
dumagdag,” said Garma.

Meanwhile, operatives of the city’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) are set to undergo trainings to improve their skills.
They started with refresher courses last Monday from a team who was trained in the United States.
Chief Insp. Sandley Sabang, the chief of CCPO-SWAT, said that this is designed to refresh and review the team’s tactical measures.
Sabang also added that Garma has invited an instructor who graduated in the United States to provide additional inputs to the squad.
Unfortunately, on the first day of training, a police officer was injured when he accidentally
shot himself during a firing drill at a firing range in Mandaue City.
Police Senior Insp. Miles Damoslog’s 9mm service firearm accidentally went off hitting his right toe.
“Di man gud na malikayan kay ang atong mga Glock (the gun used) walay safety. So natandog siguro (the gun),” said
Sabang.
