The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) secondary volleyball teams get another chance for a sweep as they secured championship slots in the girls and boys divisions of the secondary volleyball of the ongoing 28th Cebu City Olympics 2018.
The USPF spikers are on a high as just a week ago, they swept the Cesafi secondary volleyball boys and girls titles.
In the boys division, USPF won against Abellana National School (ANS) in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17, yesterday at the USPF covered court to advance to the finals.
They will face the University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R), who advanced to the finals by defeating the University of San Carlos (USC).
“If there’s a chance to do it again then we will not hesitate to grab that opportunity,” USPF boys volleyball head coach Cecil Jotojot told Cebu Daily News.
Jotojot admitted that he longs to lead Region-7 in the Palarong Pambansa and that winning this year’s Cebu City Olympics would give him a big chance to satisfy his longing.
“It was way back in 2011 when I last joined the Pambansang Palaro, and we finished third at that time,” he shared.
“As a coach, I want to create an invincible team. When you are the regional coach, you can pick high-caliber players. I already had players in mind to fill our team’s weak spot, that is if fate would allow it.”
In the distaff side, the Baby Panthers entered the finals after defeating USC, 25-10, 25-8.
They will face ANS, who frustrated St. Theresa’s College (STC) from advancing to the championship.
“We’ll always go and look for better opportunities,” Yolanda Rizarri, the USPF girls volleyball head coach, said.
Asked if she has the same dream as Jotojot, she answered, “we will see what happens tomorrow and if we will win, then yes, I will take some.”
According to Rizarri, she encourages her players to win the title by telling them how great it is to travel through sports.
“I set a goal to my players because whenever they have one, they strive really hard to achieve it,” she stated.
Settling for third place, which was contested yesterday, was USC in both the girls and boys division.
The championship will take place today starting with the boys at 8 a.m. and girls at 10 a.m. in the same venue.
