CEBU CITY, Philippines — On Good Friday, Catholics around the world reflect on the passion of Christ. In Cebu, some of the faithful celebrate this day by doing the Way of the Cross in churches or in chapels where stations of the cross are set up like those in the Chapel of the Holy Relics in Tabor Hills in Barangay Talamban in Cebu City.
There were also passion plays like the Buhing Kalbaryo, where actors perform the passion play from Barangay San Nicolas Church in Barangay San Nicolas in Cebu City to Espina Compound in Barangay Guadalupe where the crucifixion scene was staged.
Aside from that, there are also people who have themselves crucified as a form of penitence for lent, In Cebu, there is Gilbert Bargayo of Carcar City, who have himself crucified or nailed to the cross for the 27th time and the seventh time to be crucified in Tuburan town in northern Cebu.
Catholics also went to churches to listen to the “Seven Last Words” or the “Siete Palabras” — churches like the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
