30 students in 2nd batch of Veco scholars

July 01,2014 - 03:01 AM

The second batch of 30 students taking up Electromechanics Technology at the Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise (CITE) received scholarship grants from the Visayan Electric Company Inc. (Veco).

Veco chief operating officer Sebastian Lacson and assistant vice president for Human Resource Mia Carmela Cuenco signed the scholarship agreement with CITE president Oscar Rodriguez and Education and Training Technology director Reuel Jose Zapata last June 10 at the CITE Lecture Hall in Talamban, Cebu City.

The grant will cover up to P36,000 or 30 percent of the cost of education per scholar starting June 2014.

The scholars will render in-plant training for five trimesters in Veco with allowance and Dual Training System (DTS) subsidy.

“These engagements with the companies have given CITE sufficient experiential base proving that industry-driven training programs are effective and beneficial to both the academe and business sectors,” said Rodriguez in his message.

Lacson said “I am very happy to be associated with CITE and that Veco can provide an opportunity for these scholars to succeed in their chosen vocation and help their families in the future.”

He said the first batch of Cite scholars are now working in the engineering departments of Veco.

Veco’s scholarship program and partnership with CITE provides educational opportunities to the poor but deserving students.
