Police implement freeze order vs property owned by a ‘drug lord’ in Mandaue
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) led by PNP chief Debold Sinas implemented on Friday, February 19, 2021, the freeze order issued by the Court of Appeals against a suspected drug lord’s property in Mandaue City.
The P14 million worth of property located in Barangay Cubacub in Mandaue City is reportedly owned by Charlie Duhaylungsod Fortuna,
Fortuna was arrested on February 8, 2019, with around P47 million worth of ‘shabu’ at Lot 2, Block 2, Valencia Street, Vista Montaña Subdivision, Purok 6, of the same barangay.
Aside from the illegal drugs found in his possession, police said they also found documents such as deposit slips, passbooks, and remittance slips. The documents were submitted by the police to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) which also conducted a parallel investigation.
At that time, criminal cases for violation of Section 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 were filed against Fortuna who is currently detained in the Mandaue City Jail.
The AMLC found out that Fortuna used ten (10) bank accounts in his drug-trafficking activities. They also uncovered two (2) real properties belonging to him. One is located in Ozamis City in northern Mindanao and another is in Mandaue City which they believed were acquired by the suspect through illegal means.
Also, the property where the buy-bust operation took place, was reportedly purchased by a certain Juby Duhaylungsod, reported as the aunt of Fortuna. Police said they believed that the said property also belonged to Fortuna. /rcg
