MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — Ninety percent of Mandaue City’s active COVID cases are unvaccinated individuals, according to the Mandaue City Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

As of Wednesday, August 11, 2021, Mandaue City has 1,629 active cases of COVID-19, according to data from the Department of Health in Central Visayas.

Lawyer Julius Ceasar Entise, EOC deputy chief and head of the city’s contact-tracing team, said that there were also vaccinated individuals who got infected of the virus but were asymptomatic or with mild symptoms of the virus.

Entise said that recently, there had been deaths due to COVID-19 almost everyday in the city.

“Most of our casualties are really the unvaccinated, there were only two vaccinated we lost. Usually death of COVID is brought about by the complications of underlying disease conditions,” said Entise

As of August 11, the city has a total of 270 deaths based from the DOH-7’s COVID bulletin board.

He said the deaths usually occur at the hospital, in the patients houses, and in the ambulances waiting to be admitted at the hospitals.

Entise is again encouraging residents to get vaccinated to help them from experiencing severe symptoms of the virus.

Moreover, Entise said, unlike last year, when they tested family members of the positive patients only about two or three tested positive but right now almost all of the family members of the COVID patients tested positive for the virus.

Entise said contract tracing personnel were already advised to treat every case as a Delta variant case.
