CEBU CITY, Philippines — The unbeaten Filipino contender Jade Bornea and Italian/Morrocan Mohammed Obbadi both passed the official weigh-in for their International Boxing Federation (IBF) world title eliminator duel in Monterrey, Mexico, scheduled tomorrow.

Bornea, who recently signed a promotional contract with global boxing outfit, Probellum tipped the weighing scales at 114.5 pounds while Obbadi weighed in at 113.8lbs during their weigh-in today and make their 10-round showdown happen tomorrow, January 14 (January 15 Manila Time) at the Auditorio Jacales, Monterrey, Mexico.

Their duel is co-promoted by Probellum and Mexico’s BXSTRS.

Bornea is ranked No. 7 in IBF’s super flyweight division, while Obbadi is the No. 3 contender.

If Bornea defeats Obbadi tomorrow, he earns a shot for the IBF world super flyweight title currently being held by fellow Filipino, Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas.

The 26-year-old Bornea is unbeaten at 16 wins with 10 knockouts while Obbadi has 22-1 (win-loss) slate with 13 knockouts.

Ancajas was supposedly scheduled to have a unification title showdown against WBO world super flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka on December 31, but was eventually scrapped due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Argentinean Daniel Martinez then was tapped to fight Ancajas, but there was no clear indication if the fight would push through. Their fight is tentatively scheduled on February 5 with the venue yet to be announced.

On the other hand, whoever wins the title eliminator tomorrow will surely give Ancajas a good matchup.

Bornea has a higher knockout percentage of 63 percent compared to Obbadi’s 56 percent.

Both boxers have the same reach of 67 inches and both are comfortable at orthodox stance. Obbadi is a bit taller at 5-foot-6 while Bornea is 5-foot-4 in height.

Both boxers only fought once last year. Bornea fought fellow Filipino Roland Jay Biendima in General Santos City where he walked away with a unanimous decision win while Obbadi beat Spanish boxer Joel Sanchez in Milan, Italy.
