siomai sa tisaOWING to the delicacy that placed barangay Tisa  on the tourism map, local officials of barangay Tisa, Cebu City will hold the  first-ever “Siomai sa Tisa” festival on Sunday.

Ten dancing contingents from different sitios in the barangay will participate in the competition.

“Siomai sa Tisa has become a household name. It’s already our trademark,” said Tisa barangay councilman Joel Alcazaren,  chairman of the Siomai sa Tisa Festival.

And what makes siomai from Tisa stand out from the others?  “Its taste is what every palate desires,” said Alcazaren.

Participants in this Sunday’s competition all come from barangay Tisa.   “We would like to discover the talents of the Tisan-ons,” he said. On Saturday, a “Siomai Festival Queen” will also be chosen.

Siomai is a Chinese dimsum similar to a meatball made of shrimp or pork  wrapped in a thin pasta-like wrapper.  The dimsum has been available in Tisa since the 1990s. The first-ever Siomai sa Tisa festival and beauty pageant are part of the festivities in honor of San Lorenzo Ruiz, the barangay’s patron.
