Inayawan shootout: Two cops, civilian agent, suspect wounded
TWO policemen and a civilian agent were wounded in a shootout in White Road in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City yesterday.
SPO2 Julieto Bequilla, P02 Phillip James Tanza and civilian agent Crisanto Arante were rushed to the hospital after the shootout.
Bequilla and Tanza are members of the City Intelligence Branch.
The suspect, a certain “Atong,” who was also wounded in the encounter, was also brought to the hospital for treatment.
According to police, the three men were among the police team patrolling the area when they received an armed person alarm at 4:45 p.m.
The team arrived in the area and approached Atong, who allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at the policemen, who fired back.
During the shootout, all four men were wounded.
Police recovered Atong’s .38 revolver and several empty shells at the crime scene.
Police were patrolling the area as part of heightened visibility following a spate of shootings in Inayawan that left eight dead in the past two months.
