Suspect in killing of young woman in Pinamungajan, Cebu arrested

CEBU CITY, Philippines — It seemed rage and fear drove an 18-year-old man to kill a young woman whose body was found in a creek in Pinamungajan town, southern Cebu.
Police there confirmed arresting the suspect behind the killing of Jocelyn Caparida Samillon, 21.

He was identified as Jimboy Pasacan, who happened to be the victim’s boyfriend and a distant relative.
The chief of the Pinamungajan Police Station, Police Major Gilfred Baroman, said they apprehended Pasacan in Brgy. Bitoon in the neighboring municipality of Dumanjug around Monday evening.
Pasacan will be facing charges of rape with homicide after he admitted to raping and killing Samillon, said Baroman.
Raped and then killed?
Samillon was discovered lifeless on the grassy banks of a creek in Purok Cacao, Brgy Camugao, also in Pinamungajan, on Monday, January 15.
The victim was last seen joining a disco on Sunday evening, January 14, with Pasacan, a witness told investigators who then went on to interview relatives and friends.
Eventually, it was revealed to them that the two were distant relatives.
“Suod daw to silang duha,” the police chief added.
(The two were very close.)
According to initial investigations from the police, Pasacan admitted punching Samillon on her stomach three times before raping her while they were on their way home around 1 a.m. on Monday.
Out of fear that Samillon would report to authorities, the suspect allegedly strangled the victim then dumped her body in a nearby creek.
Suspect confesses
In an interview with Cebu-based radio station dyHP, Pasacan confessed on committing the crime.
He added that he and Samillon had been in a relationship three weeks prior, and both discovered recently that they were distant relatives.
After Sunday’s disco, Pasacan said he asked if he could have sex with Samillon but the latter refused.
Samillon reportedly even warned Pasacan she would shout for help if he went on with the deed, which led the suspect to punch the victim three times in the stomach.
When Samillon passed out, Pasacan allegedly raped and then strangled her, fearing that she would report his actions to her relatives and the police.
Pasacan is currently detained at Pinamungajan Police Station.
In the meantime, Samillon’s body will undergo an autopsy to confirm the cause of her death as well as Pasacan’s claims.
Pinamungajan is a second-class municipality located approximately 54 kilometers southwest of Cebu City.
