Magis Eagles get needed exposure in Chinese-Taipei
THE REIGNING Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) juniors champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles gave a good account of themselves in the 104 Yilan High School Basketball Tournament after they finished their stint with a 62-55 victory over Taishan Senior High last Thursday in Yilan City in Chinese-Taipei.
The victory was only the Eagles’ second in the tournament but it came a day after they stunned the tournament’s top seed, Keelung CIVS High School, 61-60.
According to team physician, Dr. Rhoel Dejano, who accompanied the team to Taiwan, the losses are serving the Eagles well as they bid for a repeat crown in the Cesafi this year.
“It was not about the winning but rather the learning experience that mattered most. A lot learned especially on character, attitude and discipline,” Dejano said.
This season, with Janjan Jaboneta, Zachy Huang, Nino Araw-Araw and Pio Longa graduating, the Eagles are expected to parade a rookie-laden squad that will now be led by junior forward Joshua Sinclair and Philippine Youth Team guard Jed Colonia.
