Cuevas retained as city treasurer for another six months
Days before leaving for Indonesia, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama confirmed that the Department of Finance extended City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas’s tenure for another six months.
“As of today Cuevas is our city treasurer,” Rama told reporters. He said he received the order from Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima in Manila.
The order extends Cuevas’s stay from Sept. 3, 2015 to March 2, 2016 unless “sooner revoked” and pending the appointment of a regular treasurer.
Rama said he would work on the papers for Cuevas’s permanent appointment as city treasurer.
“I’m happy that the mayor is really pushing for my extension,” said Cuevas. “For me, it show his trust and confidence. I assure that I will do my best as treasurer.”
Cuevas said she completed requirements for her application as permanent city treasurer yesterday.
Cuevas, her staffer Monina Paires, and City Accountant Mark Salomon earlier applied for the city treasurer post at City Hall’s Human Resource Development Office (HRDO).
Declaration
Rama will attend the Asia-Pacific Conference on Local Government Voices Towards HABITAT III in Wakatobi, Indonesia on Sept. 5 to 7.
“They invited me, in behalf of our city, to share my knowledge on making Cebu a city geared towards sustainability,” Rama said.
Marc Canton, a convenor of the Movement for Livable Cebu, said Rama’s road reblocking projects was a good initiative since it provides access in a neighborhood to fire fighters during an emergency.
Rama is also invited to participate in the Executive Bureau and Council meetings of the Asia-Pacific United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) on Sept. 7, part of the three-day conference in Wakatobi.
The output of the EB meetings with 54 member cities of the UCLG will serve as the basis of the “Wakatobi Declaration” which provides guidelines for member cities to follow in order to achieve sustainable urban development.
