‘Lando’ puts Team Visayas in ‘wait-and-see’ mode
TEAM Visayas is hoping for a good weather in time for its departure for Santa Cruz, Laguna to compete in the 7th National Milo Little Olympics slated Oct. 23-25.
Ricky Ballesteros, delegation head of Team Visayas, said typhoon Lando could be out of the country soon when they leave for Cebu on Wednesday.
“It may not affect the team’s scheduled departure because as what I’ve learned from the monitoring of the weather bureau, typhoon Lando is already in the northern tip of the Philippines. Based on the reports, it will be out of the country before Oct. 21,” said Ballesteros.
Team Visayas will travel 22 hours by sea. Some members will travel by plane.
Ballesteros said Team Visayas will not take chances to ensure the safety of the athletes, adding that the team will only travel if the Coast Guard allows ships to sail.
Team Visayas is composed of 356 athletes and coaches coming from Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Ilo-ilo. It will go up against three-time defending champion National Capital Region (NCR) and other teams from Mindanao and Luzon in the tournament that will feature 13 sporting events.
