The team from the Science and Technology Education Center (STEC) won the Inter-Public Elementary Math and Science Quiz Bowl last month.
The team was composed of: Chloe Nicole L. Borja, Lyana Rae L. Espina, and Reigne Hanneiken C. Gaite.
They went home with a cash prize of P5,000, medals and certificates. Their coaches were Soledad B. Amado and Anita L. Capitan.
The quiz bowl, which carried the theme “Philippines: A Science Nation Innovating for Global Competitiveness,” covered Elementary Mathematics and General Science.
It was organized by the University of the Philippines High School Cebu in celebration of Math & Science Technology Week and held on Sept. 23 at the UP Cebu Arts and Sciences Building Conference Hall.
Coming in at second place was the Lahug Elementary School team, composed of Rafaela Zyun Canonigo, Jamaica Anel Conde, and James River Philip Yuson, with their coach Madelin B. Tinapay. They received P3,000 cash, medals, and certificates.
In third place was the team from Minglanilla Special Science Elementary School, composed of Lindsay Marie Manlegro, Maxell Milay, and Bryan Rod Montecillo with their coach Lornell Ramos.
They were awarded P2,000, medals and certificates.
A total of 27 teams of Grade 6 pupils participated in the quiz bowl. The teams represented 16 schools from Cebu City, 6 schools from Lapu-Lapu City, 2 from Talisay City, and 1 school each from Carcar, Toledo, and Minglanilla.
