CCSC holds grassroots program for beach volley
THE SEARCH for the next batch of homegrown beach volleyball stars has been initiated by the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), which conducted its grassroots program last Friday.
First, Tejero Elementary School grade-schoolers got their first taste of beach volleyball action with a rare one-on-one by none other than multi-titled Southwestern University Cobras (SWU) head coach Dave Arreza.
Over 45 kids from Grade 4 to Grade 6 joined the event held at the Fort San Pedro beach volleyball court.
Arreza, who led SWU to back-to-back titles in the Cesafi last month, said that the kids showed great potential in beach volleyball as they showed no trouble adjusting to the game.
“Forty-nine pupils joined the program. The kids really enjoyed the game,” said Arreza, who is USJ-R’s former spiking ace. After last Friday’s successful camp, Arreza said he is looking forward to more volleyball programs in the future.
“Mangita pa kami kung asa ang duol nga venue. Sa Fort ra man among venue (We’ll look for a venue that is nearer.
The Fort is our only venue for now). Maybe next month or next year,” Arreza added.
