Apas receives security cameras from IT firm

Years after he graduated from Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School, an official of a Mandaue City-based information technology company returned to give back to his alma mater yesterday.

Cloyd Dedicaturia, a communications officer of 7Core Communications Inc., turned over 16 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras worth P5.8 million to barangay Apas yesterday.

Of that number,  eight were installed in Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School while the rest were installed in various areas of the barangay.

During the turnover,  Apas barangay chairman Ramil Ayuman, who was with barangay and school officials, said they were grateful for the donation.

Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School is the first public school in Cebu City to acquire security cameras.

Dedicaturia said the company only asked the barangay to pay P800,000 to cover the cost of labor in the installation of  the cameras.

“That’s my belief as one of the visionaries in the I.T. industry, why not give back to where I belong, where I started from in order to elevate their capabilities,” Dedicaturia said.

The company will co-manage the operation of the security cameras with the barangay for five years. If by that time the barangay can  operate the cameras, Dedicaturia said they will turn over management to them.

Some barangay workers will be trained to operate the CCTV cameras. Dedicaturia said it is important that barangay Apas including its public school will be equipped with security cameras as they are close to Cebu I.T. Park.

School principal Ronnie Gonzales said they are thankful to be beneficiaries of the cameras.

“This is the first time. We’re all surprised about it. As far as I know this is the first school (with CCTV cameras),” he said.
