The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to sit down with them and discuss how they will complete the drainage system project along St. John Paul II Avenue.
CCTO operations chief Jonathan Tumulak said they will only greenlight the P58.3 million drainage project if the regional DPWH, the contractor and the affected utility firms draw up a plan that won’t affect posts and pipes in the area.
“It will be useless if we will give the go-signal then it will just stop because there is a possibility that pipelines underneath will be hit, then it will lead to the delay of the project,” he said in Cebuano.
Tumulak said the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) and the Visayan Electric Co. confirmed to them that they have pipelines and posts in the area respectively.
Tumulak said the DPWH should determine who will work and shoulder expenses if ever there will be pipelines or posts to be dismantled.
“After that they will come back here at the office so we can give our endorsement and then we will make a traffic plan,” he said.
Tumulak said any work in that area should be hastened and a traffic plan laid down because Pope John Paul II Ave is considered a critical traffic congestion area in the city.
DPWH District Engr. Nicomedes Leonor said they will meet with stakeholders on the project this week.
