AT LEAST 3,000 policemen will be deployed for the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship this Sunday in Cebu.

Senior Supt. Rey Lawas, deputy regional director for operations, said that the total number of policemen will be divided into smaller task groups that will be then assigned in the areas of Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Cebu City.

“We have learned lessons from the previous IronMan (races). All of those shortcomings have been addressed,” Lawas said.

Lawas also said as early as yesterday, there were already policemen within the vicinity of the hotels where some of the triathletes are checked-in.

He assured that there are enough security deployment on race day. In Lapu-Lapu, for example, 200 policemen will be deployed there since that is where the race starts and ends.
