Organizers of the upcoming 18th Aboitiz Football Cup are hopeful that they would be one of the tournaments to be looked up to by other football clubs in the country.

In a press launching of the event on Friday, Cebu Football Association (CFA) President Ricky Dakay said he wants the tournament to be a “role model” for other clubs.

“We hope that this tournament will emulate a good role model to the different football clubs here in the country and [hopefully] start their own tournament like ours,” said Dakay.

The launching was held at the Pueblo Verde in Mactan Island. With Dakay were Aboitizland’s Eduardo Aboitiz, CFA official Glenn Quisido and Aboitiz Foundation’s Sonny Carpio.

A MOA signing highlighted the launching to formalize the partnership between CFA and Aboitizland.

160 teams composed of 40 schools and 120 football clubs have already enlisted in the tournament which starts Sept. 4 and will last until March next year. Games will be at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and four other venues in Cebu City and Mandaue City.
