THERE were no illegal drugs but there were two cell phones and improvised weapons that were discovered in a surprise inspection of the Mandaue City Jail at past 2 a.m. Saturday.

The inspection was done by the regional Bureau Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Mandaue City Jail, Mandaue City police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The inmates were brought to a secured area before the search began. The phones were taken for examination.

Warden JCI Gil Inopia said they will investigate how the cell phones were smuggled inside the cells despite the ban on it.
