A SUSPECTED drug dealer died in a shootout with police during an aborted buy bust operation at sitio Alliance, Barangay Basak in Mandaue City at 3:30 am Sunday.

Senior Insp. Pedy Noval, Basak police precinct chief, identified the 48-year-old suspect as Edwin Canoy, a resident of the area.

He said Canoy surrendered to them during their Oplan TokHang only to return to the drug trade afterwards.

Noval said Canoy ran to his house and hid there, telling his wife Gemma to get out. Noval said his men noticed that Canoy was about to fire at them and beat him to it, firing several shots at him.

Found in Canoy’s possession were one .38 revolver and some marked money.

Gemma admitted that her husband used drugs but denied that he sold them. She also denied that he was armed.
