USPF, CDU spikers fight for survival in Cesafi women’s volleyball

By: John Carlo Villaruel September 16,2016 - 10:25 PM

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Foundation (USPF) Lady Panthers and the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) Lady Stallions will look to keep their tournament hopes alive as they battle for the last spot in the semifinals in the Cesafi women’s volleyball tournament today at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main gym.

Even though it has only won one victory out of four assignments, the Lady Stallions, who are comprised of intramural players, are having a decent season. They managed to beat the University of Cebu (UC), 25-19, 25-12, 25-19, while giving the defending champions Southwestern University (SWU) a run for their money last weekend before losing, 20-25, 23-25, 6-25.

However, they will need more than just heart against the heavy-odds on favorite Lady Panthers, who are looking to turn things around after a miserable 1-3 (win-loss) start.
It has been a season to forget for the Lady Panthers as they were unable to find the right combination on the offensive end, losing by an average margin of 25.3 points in their three defeats.

The winner of this game will be joining the SWU Lady Cobras, USC Lady Warriors and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars in the semifinals, which will begin on Sept. 25.
