BADMINTON players from 15 companies – private sector and several government agencies, participated in Golden Prince Hotel’s First Badminton Tournament last Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Racquet Zone Badminton Center.

The team tie event held among badminton enthusiasts from BDO, QBE, DSWD, MCWD, Lexmark, Aboitiz Power A, Aboitiz Power B, P&A Grand, Innodata, Aboitiz Land, World Vision, Pag-Ibig Fund, Teletech, CITE Tech Inc, Util-Bill Phils Inc., featured Men’s Doubles, Ladies’ Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Having won the Men’s Doubles title, Pag-Ibig Fund went on to challenge Ladies’ Doubles winner, BDO in the deciding Mixed Doubles match.

BDO managed to capture the first set at 22-20 but the tenacity of Pag-Ibig Fund’s Jay-R Batulan and Jerra Pacinio gave them the second set, 14-21, forcing a deciding set.

Bankers Rufino Taleon and Alexa Lim, determined to grab the win for their team, incessantly sent the birdie to Pacinio’s direction to take advantage of her inexperience. Batulan’s valiant efforts to cover for Pacinio, however impressive, fell short as his legs started to cramp due to fatigue.

The racquet wielding bankers closed the third set, 21-19, earning the coveted over-all top prize for their team. Pag-IBIG Fund settled for second place while MCWD finished third.

Among the prizes given to the champions were an overnight stay at Golden Prince Hotel with free dinner, breakfast and lunch plus a free pass at their Aphrodite Spa for each team member.

The Golden Prince First Badminton Tournament was one of several events lined up to celebrate their 10 years in the hospitality industry.
