TEAM Cebu City showed immense composure in enemy territory as it flustered a local squad to bring home the championship trophy of the Palompon Sepak Takraw Open Tournament last Sunday in Palompon, Leyte.
The Niños, who were the only out of town team to compete in the tournament, pummeled the Kananga Amateur Sepak Takraw Association in the finals, 25-15, 21-4, to bag the P3,000 champion’s purse.
“Winning in this tournament and taking home the prize was only our second option. Our main target was to promote the sport,” playing coach Marlon Gicain told Cebu Daily News.
Cebu City crushed Team Isabel-Leyte in the semifinals, 21-16, 21-13, to arrange a titular duel with Kananga. The Niños also beat all their opponents in straight-sets.
The Cebu City squad was composed of Gicain, Lyle Kent Monte, Marvin Ompad, Joshua Moses Mirafuentes, and John Niño Estrera.
