Capitol to reward Tuburan, winning province contingents
Contingents from the cities and towns of Cebu province that won in various competitions during this year’s Sinulog festival will be given rewards by the provincial government.
“No exact figure yet but I promised Mayor (Democrito) Diamante of Tuburan an incentive with all their victories. Not really big amounts but at least this will entice others to join the Sinulog next year,” Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said yesterday.
Davide said the province is “proud of the winners” who worked hard to win in some contests sponsored during the annual celebration.
Tuburan town led the list of winners from Cebu province by winning third in the Sinulog-based dance competition. It also bagged top honors in the Sinulog sa Lalawigan.
The town contingent’s festival princess, Christine Jael Abellanosa was also crowned Sinulog Festival Queen 2014 after besting 10 other contestants during the competition last Friday.
Abellanosa, a 19-year-old tourism major, was also adjudged best solo performer and best in festival costume.
Other winners are Carcar City which placed fourth in the Sinulog-based competition followed by Talisay City Central School at fifth.
Davide also commended the festival organizers for the “smooth and orderly” grand parade last Sunday.
He said it was his first time to join the grand parade since he used to walk around the streets during his time as Cebu City councilor years back.
“I was impressed with the flow of the parade. You can see that people were very active and was doing their jobs,” he said.
Davide walked side by side the Capitol’s nipa hut-inspired float last Sunday when it went through the Cebu City Sports Complex last Sunday.
He was unable to watch the performances at the grandstand since he had some appointments to meet.
