Basketball enthusiasts from business process outsourcing (BPO) companies will get additional exposure via the 2017 DH25 Inter-BPO Basketball Tournament.

The tournament was launched yesterday led by no less than Dondon Hontiveros, the veteran guard of the Alaska Aces in the PBA.

“This will be our first activity for next year. We’ve done a lot with our basketball training camp. We were able to let aspiring basketball players to experience how it is to be a varsity player as they get a chance to travel to showcase their skills,” said the player known as Cebuano Hotshot, who is the camp director of DH25 Basketball Camp.

The tournament will kick off in January next year and will run for three months. Leo Casinillo will serve as commissioner with Reggie Licanda as his deputy.

“This will not just a pure basketball tournament as winning team will get to choose a barangay in Cebu City where we can conduct an outreach program,” said Hontiveros.

Also, the league’s top performers such as Finals MVP and season MVP and winning teams will receive special items.
“Alaska products including the new Alaska whipped cream will be given away,” Hontiveros added.

In addition, children of selected players will get to enjoy free sessions for our training camp.

“Our training camp will start on April or May. Registration fee is P2,500 which is good for eight sessions,” said Hontiveros.

Though the tournament format is still being finalized, it has been agreed that the competing teams will be divided into two groups.

“We will divide the teams based on their strengths. This is to level the playing field. We are familiar with basketball teams from BPO companies so we will be able to determine how to group the teams,” said coach Calib Gawangan.

Hontiveros said they are also planning to create a website where scores and statistics can be checked in real-time.
Several teams have already confirmed participation, said Hontiveros.

Among those who attended the launching were representatives from Accenture, SSI and Supportsave.

A solidarity meeting will be held to finalize the date of the opening and the venue.
