THE SALUDAR brothers Froilan and Vic from Polomolok, South Cotabato met contrasting fates in last Saturday night’s “Engkwentro Dinhi Sa Mandaue” at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Froilan, 28, put on a dominating performance and scored a ninth-round technical knockout (TKO) win over Omega Boxing Gym’s Salatiel Amit, while the 26-year-old Vic, 26, faltered in the main event when he bowed to the Manila-based Toto Landero via split decision.
Froilan picked up his 25th win (16KOs) to go with two defeats and one draw, while Amit dropped to (10W-3L-2D, 7KOs).
In completing the huge upset, Landero improved to 9W-1L-2D, 2KOs, while Vic, who is ranked number two in the WBO super flyweight division, fell to 14W-3L-0D, 9KOs.
“I’m happy that I was able to deliver a good performance. I could have shown a better performance had it not been for the slippery ring,” said Landero.
Two judges scored the bout for Landero, 97-93, 97-93, while the third judge had it 96-93 for Vic.
“I just pressured him a lot and I was more aggressive that’s why I was able to get the victory,” added Landero.
On the other hand, Vince Paras of General Santos City kept his unbeaten record intact and at the same time snatched the WBO Asia Pacific Youth junior flyweight champion after beating Omega Boxing Gym’s Jimboy Haya via unanimous decision (UD).
The three judges scored the bout identically, 96-93.
In the lone female match, Hawaiian Casey Morton scored UD win over Thai Phannaluk Kongsang in their six-round battle.
Morton remained unbeaten with her fifth straight victory along with three draws.
Robert “Inggo” Paradero (14W-0L, 8KO’s) of Bukidnon knocked out fellow Mindanaoan warrior Charlie Malupangue (5-3-3, 4 KOs) of Zamboanga.
