CEBUANO racquet-wielder Chad Connor Cuizon added another trophy to his plethora of awards as he rallied from a set down to upset Philippine No.1 Tenielle Madis 4-5, 5-4, 4-1 to claim the 10-unisex title of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) Olivarez Cup yesterday in Sucat Paranaque.
The Grade 4 student of CCL-Centrex who is fresh from a blistering championship victory in the Milo National Finals last Saturday in Ortigas, carried his momentum in the PPS-PEPP Olivarez Cup winning over Samuel Salazar 4-0, 4-1 in the semifinals before frustrating Madis in yesterday’s championship duel.
Pops Alejandro-Cuizon, Chad’s mother, believes that their training with national team head coach Roland Kraut and Cebuana Hanna Espinosa really helped his son both mentally and physically in the game as he was able to score the crucial points.
“It was a long match and as it progressed, his movement really improved. We would like to thank RP team head coach Roland Kraut, Hanna Espinosa and the support of his uncles especially Atty. Vladimir Cuizon and aunts, both here in Cebu and abroad. They were very supportive,” Chad’s mother said.
After his championship victory, Chad will take a short break before heading to Davao City as he competes in the PPS-PEPP Group 1 tournament slated from August 24 to 28.
