DORY Enoveso proved that age is just a number as the 75-year-old bowler emerged champion in the Seniors Masters division of the 19th Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA)- Cebu Sinulog Open National Tournament yesterday at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Banilad, Cebu City.
Enoveso of the BTA-Philippines Senior Bowlers-Cebu started slow but heated up in the later stages of the six-day, ten-game tournament to emerge champion. She finished with a total of 2,068 pinfalls and averaged 168 in every game in the finals yesterday.
“I never thought that I was going to be the champion of this tournament,” said Enoveso, who has five children and 13 grandchildren. “Aside from the fact that my opponents are mostly men, I am already 75 years old.”
This is actually not the first time that the Consolacion-based Enoveso triumphed in bowling. She was hailed the champion in the 2nd Pilipinas Sugbu Cup- National Bowling Tour Open back in September 2015 in the same venue.
“Maybe this is one of God’s blessing to me,” Enovoso said.
It was an impressive feat for Enoveso, who said she had no training in particular aside from their weekly tournaments. She shared how she keeps in step with her younger foes.
“For me it’s really the discipline and eating the healthy way. Exercise and good food really helps,” she said.
Clifford Tan of BTA finished second with 2,044 pinfalls while BTA-Cebu president Bel Suelto settled for third with a total of 2,039 pinfalls.
Enoveso bagged P50,000 cash prize for the win. She said she will be using this for future tournaments, especially those out-of-town events.
