Now that the administration bloc, Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) sits as the majority of the Cebu City Council, Mayor Tomas Osmeña is planning to revive the P18-billion Kawit Island Project anytime soon.

The Kawit joint venture agreement was junked by the council last May, which was then led by the opposition Barug Team Rama-PDP Laban.

Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc. (UHRI), a development-arm of Gokongwei-led JG Summit Holdings Corp., intends to develop the 8-hectare Kawit Island Property into an integrated resort.

“They (UHRI) are willing to start right away,” said Osmeña.
