Duterte on ‘admission’ to marijuana use: ‘It was a joke’

After saying he used marijuana to stay awake during a recent regional conference, President Rodrigo Duterte now says that “admission” was just a “joke.”
“Plastic ang gamit ko. Plastic na marijuana,” Duterte told reporters in an interview.
Asked if he was just joking about admitting to marijuana use, Duterte said: “Of course, kayong media (talaga).”
The President was referring to his remarks at the conferment of awards to the Asean-National Organizing Council officials in Malacañang where he said that he uses marijuana to keep him awake amid his hectic schedule.
Duterte, who has been known to issuing controversial remarks, explained he was merely trying to provide a light moment in the middle of a serious discussion.
“I just want to shake the tree in a middle of a speech kasi boring ‘pag wala. Ako naman magpatawa talaga ako kasi boring kapag walang ano,” he said.
“It was a joke, of course it was a joke. Pero nobody could stop me from just doing my style. Minsan sabi ninyo misogynist ako kasi magbiro ako ng ganun, that’s my style it’s too late to change. If I want to joke, I will joke,” he added.
