TALISAY CITY, Cebu, Philippines — A 52-year-old Barangay Lagtang resident, who claimed to be the cousin of late former Barangay Captain of Lagtang in Talisay City, Ferdinand “Dindin” Bas, was arrested on Saturday, March 30, after police served him an arrest warrant for an illegal drugs case.

Danilo Bas was playing Mahjong when Cebu provincial police officers served the warrant of arrest on him, said Police Captain Alejandro Batobalonos, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit chief.

When asked if he was related to the late Lagtang Barangay Captain Bas, Danilo said that he was a cousin.

But a lawyer of the late Lagtang Barangay Captain Bas said that Danilo Bas’ allegations about him and the late Barangay Captain were cousins was untrue.

The lawyer said that Danilo Bas and the late Barangay Captain Ferdinand Bas are not related at all.

He said that they had been looking for Bas for quite a while since they did not know where his whereabouts were until Saturday.

Batobalonos served the warrant of arrest against Bas in the morning of March 30.

He said that the arrest warrant was issued by Judge Jacinto Fajardo, presiding judge of Branch 66 of the Regional Trial Court in Talisay.

Bas is facing a case involving the violation of Section 5 Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or the violation involving the selling of illegal drugs./dbs
