Cebu City, Philippines—A habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) driver was shot dead at the doorstep of his house in Sitio Kamanggahan, Barangay Poog, Toledo City, Cebu around 8 p.m. on August 19, 2019.

The victim, identified by the police as 38-year-old Mario Paraiso, just finished eating his dinner when he was shot by a still unidentified suspect.

Initial investigation by the police showed that the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds on his head but they have yet to determine how many wounds he sustained.

Police Staff Sergeant Reynaldo Arragoza, the investigator on the case from the Toledo City police, said the wife of the victim, Susan Villacienco, told them that she was washing the dishes in their kitchen when she heard someone arrive at their home and started a conversation with her husband.

However, the conversation only lasted for a few seconds as the next thing she heard were bursts of gunfire.

When she rushed out to check what happened, she found her husband lying on a pool of blood  right outside their front door.

According to Arragoza, they are looking into the victim’s alleged involvement in illegal activities as one of the possible motive for the crime. /bmjo
