Genvi Development Corporation, developer of Monterrazas de Cebu, continues to engage the community in which it operates through various sustainable corporate social responsibility projects.

Recently, there has been a growing concern for ensuring safety and preparedness in schools should there be any untoward disaster. In response to this, Genvi Development Corporation has partnered with the Young Heroes of Cebu (YHC) for their Safer Schools Project, which aims to make public and private schools more resilient to disaster risk management. By educating and empowering the students in terms of awareness, preparedness and response, the Safer Schools Project will improve coordination and increase the capacity of the students and teachers to effectively manage disaster risk.

On a global scale, Genvi also continues to lend its support and adheres to the advocacies of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). The UNISDR was created in December 1999 as part of the UN Secretariat with the purpose of ensuring the implementation of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.

Ms. Margareta Wahlstrom, UN Special Representative of the Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction, was in Manila last March 4, to initiate an invitation to the Philippine government to be among the 15 “Safe School Leader countries” who will participate at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan.

As private sector partner, Genvi continues to lend its support to the projects and activities of the UNISDR in the country.

Present at the initial meeting for the UN Global Program on Safer Schools held at the Department of Education Complex, Meralco Ave, Pasig City last March 4, were Genvi Development Corporation President/CEO Atty. Dindo Perez, Vice-President of Business Development Lormilo Galo and Consultant Al Arquillano, UNISDR Asia Pacific Regional Champion for Making Cities Resilient.
