Cebuanos are facing the prospect of unscheduled brownouts in the next five days after the Cebu-Negros-Panay grid experienced a 200 MW shortage starting today.

The Visayan Electric Co (Veco) said three major plants are undergoing unscheduled preventive maintenance which may last for five days.

“We activated the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) which will contribute 20 MW of the load curtailment. For the remaining 16 MW, we will implement hour long rotational brownouts across our franchise area,” Veco corporate communications manager Theresa Gonzales-Sederiosa said.
